CASTLES, HISTORY AND LEGENDS OF PIACENZA AND SURROUNDINGS

FIRST DAY

Arrival at the archaeological area of Veleia Romana, ancient Roman city built behind Piacenza.                         Visit to this important archaeological site full of historical finds that testify to life in this area during the 1st century BC. Transfer to the suggestive medieval tavern of Gropparello Castle. Lunch with the typical menu of the territory and guided tour to discover the history, secrets and mysteries of the Castle: a jewel of the Piacenza area, built on a rocky spur with breathtaking views. The Castle belonged to Charlemagne and now holds the legend of Rosania Fulgosio. Accommodation in a holiday farm on the outskirts of Piacenza. Dinner and overnight stay.

SECOND DAY

After breakfast, arrival at the medieval village of Castell’Arquato, splendidly preserved and located in a dominant position over the valley. Guided tour of the Rocca Viscontea and of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria. Lunch in a typical restaurant in the center of the village. Free afternoon for visiting Piacenza, an ancient city where the Roman road “Via Emilia” ended, full of poetic views, glorious noble palaces and fascinating churches.
